Weekend Art Roundup

There are many great art related happenings taking place all around town this weekend, here are a few of the highlights... On Saturday evening, Domy Books is celebrating yet another opening in their gallery space. This time around, local stitcher extraordinaire, Jenny Hart, is presenting a new exhibit of drawings based on year-book photos from her small town high school. The pencil line portraits are decorated with embroidery-like embellishes, suggestive of Hart's work with her company, Sublime Stitching. Saturday's reception is free and starts at 7pm. more ›

The Austin chapter of the American Institute of Architects will host a tour of twenty-two downtown architectural firms on Saturday, May 1 from 1pm to 5pm. Tickets are $5, available the day of the tour at AIA Austin, 801 W. 12th Street. All proceeds benefit Casa Verde Builders - a service program of American YouthWorks. more ›

AIA Austin (the Austin Chapter of The American Institute of Architects) has announced the recipients of the 2010 AIA Austin Honor Awards: JOHN V. NYFELER, FAIA COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD bestowed on Donna Carter, FAIA for extended commitment to community service or significant contribution evidenced by a positive impact on urban, environmental or neighborhood issues. The EMERGING PROFESSIONAL AWARD recipient is Eva Schone, AIA. This award is presented to a member or associate member for professional achievement in leadership during the early years of participation in AIA Austin. more ›

Open Architecture East: AIA Austin Architects' Studios Tour

Interested in getting an inside look at the glamourous world of Architecture? It's not all fancy cocktail parties and blowing up buildings that don't conform to your specifications. There is also a lot of drawing. The architects probably won't actually be drawing during the tour, but you will be able to walk around their offices and pretend that they are right there in front of you envisioning the future of our built environment, like gods that walk the earth. Maps will be provided so you may tour the studios at your own pace. Architecturally-correct refreshments will be served. The tour is self-guided (walking/biking/driving). The $5.00 ticket price goes to benefit Uplift Austin. more ›

AIA Austin Homes Tour: October 10-11

This year's AIA Austin Homes Tour will be held on Saturday and Sunday October 10-11, 2009 from 12-6 p.m each day. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the weekend of the event. Tickets may be purchased at Cissi’s Market, Zinger Hardware or directly from AIA Austin. Additional information is available from AIA Austin (512.452.4332) or aiaaustin.org. The 24th Annual AIA Austin Homes Tour is a showcase of great design by local architects. This self-guided tour encompasses 14 homes from Central Austin to Lakeway and includes new construction, renovation and preservation projects with traditional and contemporary designs. more ›
