Started in 2009 by fellow classmates to honor the memory of Sergio Machado, a Southwestern University graduate and musician who was killed by a drunk driver in his home country of Mozambique, the Oh Snap! Festival has quickly evolved into one of the biggest showcases for local talent the city has to offer. All proceeds from the festival will go towards Southwestern's Sergio Machado Memorial Scholarship, which helps bring international students to Southwestern.

This year's festival will consist of around 50 bands spanning both the Parish and Beale St. Tavern stages. Some of the many names include T-Bird and the Breaks, Mother Falcon, Ume, Megafauna, DJ Orion, The Lemurs, Wild Moccasins, Whiskey Shivers, Little Lo, and FreshMillions, and that's only beginning to scratch the surface. There are plenty of up and coming groups on the roster, meaning that it will pay to arrive early and stay late. Additionally, the festival will showcase variety acts, comedy, and art.

One-day tickets for both days are still on sale for $20 (though Friday ticket sales end at 11 p.m. tonight), and $35 will get you into both days of the festival. In short, the Oh Snap! festival is an excellent way to support local talent and a great cause.
