Weekend Music Preview: Fabrication 7, Car Stereo (Wars), & More!
- ElfGirl and JenRea (a.k.a. Team Fabrication) present Fabrication 7, an annual rendezvous of fashion, music, and everything in between, this Saturday at The Mohawk. Besides admiring plenty of exciting new designs, you can also participate in the beloved Karaoke Underground, and enjoy live music by 'Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, Ovenbirds, The Laughing, and The Happen-Ins.
- The Ghost Room (located at the old Gingerman spot) has quickly become a veritable live music option in the Warehouse District. Throughout this month, the venue has been home to a Monday evening residency by popular songstress Erin Ivey. And it’s great to see a whole slew of Texan talent take centre-stage this weekend as well -- Friday’s schedule boasts Bosque Brown, The Black, and She, Sir while Saturday’s line-up features The Great Nostalgic, Candi and The Strangers and Leatherbag, and the Businessman DJs. Candi and The Strangers is respected local producer Erik Wofford’s (Cacophony Recorders) first foray into what he calls “the other side of the glass.” Their debut full-length is a sonically pleasing collection of exquisitely arranged dream-pop -- pick up the record tonight at this special CD release show.
- TV Torso, comprised of former Sound Team alums Matt Oliver and Jordan Johns, and Austin Leonard Jones, has been staying busy -- after releasing two stellar 7" records a couple of months ago, the band cut a Daytrotter Session in early November and impressed at our pre-Fun Fest shindig Local Music Is Sexy. TV Torso’s enduring melodies pervade Beerland this Saturday; PVC Street Gang and Followed By Static support. Bill Baird’s prolific post-Sound Team project Sunset recently released a fourth record, Gold Dissolves To Gray -- read our review here, and catch Sunset, along with David Israel (Say Goodbye to Sorry vinyl release), Pillow Queens, and Baby Showers at Baird’s Baby Blue Studios this Friday.
- The Parlor, an ever-popular destination for tasty pizza, has built itself a healthy reputation for delivering quality events on a regular basis. On Friday, the new location (43rd and Guadalupe) hosts the opening reception of Images from the Pit II : The Rock Imagery of Donna Habersaat and Altercation Magazine. The display runs through December 7th. On Saturday, the Red Leaves’ Trouble in the City of Water EP release and Way No Way’ cassette release show (at the original spot on North Loop) is an excellent opportunity to catch two exciting yet somewhat under the radar Austin bands.
- If you haven’t been keeping tabs on Car Stereo (Wars), here’s a quick update -- Chris Rose relocated his mash-up enterprise to Brooklyn this past summer, performed at Lollapalooza in August, and returned home to dazzle Fun Fest earlier this month. Lucky for us, he’s sticking around for a few months. This Saturday, Rose reinstates himself at the helm at Beauty Bar; emerging local DJ Hot Britches (Beef Eigler) and promising electro-poppers Missions ensure the dance party starts nice ‘n’ early.
